About Shanghai Metro
The Metro reached 898 km in December 2025. Fares start at 3 yuan for up to 6 km, plus 1 yuan per 10 km. You can tap a contactless UnionPay, Visa, Mastercard, American Express or JCB card at the gates (with small-amount password-free payment enabled), use the Metro Daduhui app, or buy a ticket at machines and service centres, which take overseas cards. A one-day pass costs 18 yuan and a three-day pass 45 yuan; they don’t cover the Maglev (Shanghai Municipal Government).
