About Drinks on the Bund: the back story

The Bund is the city’s grandest place for a drink. Its historic hotels keep some of Shanghai’s most famous bars, and their terraces look straight across the river at the towers of Lujiazui.

The Jazz Bar

In the Fairmont Peace Hotel, the Jazz Bar is a Shanghai institution, with live jazz in an Art Deco room at the foot of Nanjing Road East.

The Long Bar

At No. 2 on the Bund, the Waldorf Astoria’s Long Bar stretches 34 metres and has been restored to the grandeur of the old Shanghai Club.

The Long Bar at the Waldorf Astoria is 34 metres long.

Terraces and views

Sir Elly’s Terrace on the roof of The Peninsula looks along the whole waterfront. Across the river, Qi Bar at the Mandarin Oriental faces back at the Bund.

Our advice: arrive before sunset to see the Bund by daylight, then stay as the Pudong towers light up.
